About Christie Blake, APRN
I am a board-certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with a specialization in child and adolescent psychopharmacology. I treat young adults as well. I have been in practice for over 18 years and I feel blessed to do the work that I do.
My training in mental health began during my undergraduate years at Trinity College (Hartford CT), where I majored in Neuroscience and completed my senior thesis on ADHD. After college I worked as a clinical research assistant in Massachusetts General Hospital’s Pediatric and Adult Psychopharmacology Research Program. It was here where I worked closely with three wonderful nurse practitioners and realized that a career in mental health nursing was the ideal fit for me. It combined my interest in clinical psychiatry with the compassion-driven approach of nursing.
I received my Advanced Practice Nursing Degree from Yale University in 2005. I went on to work in various outpatient mental health clinics, the most important and impactful being the 13 years that I worked in the Outpatient Psychiatry Department at Boston Children’s Hospital. It was here where I had the pleasure of treating some of the most medically and psychosocially complex cases under the guidance of so many wonderful mentors and colleagues. I left Children’s in 2018 to focus on my private practice.
My approach to care is compassionate, patient-centered, and not exclusively focused on medication interventions. I enjoy listening and learning from my patients, and always bring warmth and understanding to every person I work with. I have treated children, teens, and young adults with a variety of mental health diagnoses and have particular interests in ADHD, OCD, Tic Disorders, and the medically complex patient.
The greatest part of my work is making a connection with so many wonderful individuals and families, and seeing them progress over the years. Clinical improvement can take time and be quite the journey. The key is having the right provider by your side as you make that journey and to do it collaboratively. As I tell all my patients, I cannot promise outcomes, but I can promise to work hard together to achieve their goals and find sustainable happiness.
